Vista Playa de Oro is a pirate-themed family resort on the Manzanillo-Cihuatlan road, across the street from Playa Miramar and looking over Santiago Bay. The grounds are white stucco, red tile roofs, cobblestone paths and tropical gardens with bougainvillea, and there is a walk across to the sand for the beach days.

The 272 rooms are done in a classic Mexican style, white walls, red tiles and wooden furniture. All look over the gardens and have air conditioning, a private balcony, Wi-Fi and bottled water. Family rooms sleep up to five, with bunk beds in some layouts, and the King Suite adds a kitchenette and a small living area.

Dining is simple and centred on two restaurants. Perla Negra is the large buffet and La Goleta the specialty restaurant for the evening. La Palapa and a beach snack spot cover the in-between hours. Four bars include Barba Negra, a pirate tavern, and Wayuu, a beachfront bar with a view across the bay, where a DJ plays in the evening.
Days belong to the children. Kraken Aquapark has a giant pirate ship with slides, and there are two pools, a minigolf course, a multi-purpose court, a zipline for adults and another for kids, and a climbing wall. The Buccaneers' Club game room and a night camp fill the evenings, and the Pirates' Forum hosts a show every night. It suits families with younger children who want activities included. Laundry and the spa carry an extra charge.
